Re: Inducing periods

Hi hopee,

Nope, there is not really a way to induce a period. There are ways that a person can try to regulate their cycle (like via hormonal birth control), but not ways to make a period come exactly when you want it to.

Re: Guilt

Hi bigbywolf, That sounds like you've got some rough emotions running around in your head. I'm glad you've opened up this conversation with your boyfriend, and it sounds like he's receptive to talking about it and helping you when these thoughts come up. So, I think your plan to have a more involved...

First Experiences with the OB-GYN

Something we see some users being nervous about going in for an exam with a gynecologist. So, for those of you who've been, were you worried before your first visit? What were you worried about? If you weren't worried, what helped you be that way? Is there anything that, in retrospect, you'd wish yo...

Re: If unwanted pregnancy happened in my community, your adv

I think this is one of those situations that's very tricky to discuss in the hypothetical , because how to approach it would depend very much on the individuals involved. Of the couple, they'd need to decide what consequences they'd be willing to face and how likely they are to occur, and what they'...

Re: If unwanted pregnancy happened in my community, your adv

Hi Morad,

Just to clarify, when you say cause to kill, are you referring to a law that says that the penalty for unmarried pregnancy is death, or to a practice that's common in the culture?

Re: The Fault In Our Stars

I loved TFIOS when it came out as a book, and I'm glad to hear that the movie kept the tone and spirit of the book. I'm with Redskies that the characters have always read as very realistic. There's a good balance between snarkiness and cynicism and genuine sweetness and vulnerability. I also feel li...

Re: Alternative Menstrual Remedies

I just want to second the bit in the original post about the stick-on heating pads. You can get a pack of three for around 8 bucks (the size that says it's for wrist and neck should work for most people) and they can be lifesavers if you need to be at work or school a day when you're having bad cram...

Okay, so a good first step would be to check out the "help near you" link on the main Scarleteen webpage. This allows to search for resources in your area and see if there's one that fits your needs:

Re: Clitoral Desensitization: Myth or Truth?

Hi CrimsonCat, The short answer is nope, you cannot desensitize or hurt yourself from masturbating frequently. With the showerhead, as long as you aren't directing a spray of water into your vagina, you can't hurt yourself by doing that. There is simply no data to support the idea that masturbating ...

Re: One Night Stand & Flashbacks

Okay, so you'd like something a little more immediate than your psychiatrist (or would you feel comfortable asking if you two could talk sooner than planned)? Is something like a support group more what you'd like, or would you prefer something more like a one on one counselor (or something else ent...

Right on :) I'd say now is the time to bust them out.

At the this point, is there anything else (within the scope of things we're able to do) that you'd like help with or to talk about?

Re: One Night Stand & Flashbacks

It's totally normal to feel scared in a moment like this. And it's definitely normal to wish that answers would arrive faster than they are, or that you could go back in time. But all the worry in the world won't make those answers appear faster, and will just make you unhappy in the interim. All yo...

Re: One Night Stand & Flashbacks

If protection wasn't used, then yes, there is some risk of STI transmission. However, as I said, you've taken the tests you can (and it sounds like plan to test for HIV when you can). So, in the interim it's best just to take care of yourself until you get more information via the results. I do want...

Re: One Night Stand & Flashbacks

Ah, okay, I follow. I think it's good that you've figured out that the sleep thing is something you're still not comfortable with. If nothing else, it's something you can communicate to future partners so that they don't trigger that fear for you. At this point, you've taken the steps you can on the...

Re: I'm fifteen and I think I might be bi

Hi sfed, Well, the way you describe your feelings certainly matches with the common definition of bisexuality. But, beyond that, you get to decide for yourself how you'd like to define your sexual orientation. So, if you feel that bi best describes your feelings? Then that's what you get to call you...

Re: Possible pregnancy risk?

As Mo said, at this point you just have to wait until you can take a pregnancy test. Doing some self-care in the interim can help make the wait less stressful: Self-Care a La Carte Even if you were "looking for attention?" Not an excuse for someone to engage in sexual behavior with you wit...

Re: condom problem

Hi Peachy, I would try shopping around (or least reading up at) sites such as luckybloke, which can recommend condoms for different needs. Also, be aware that some companies will not label snugger condoms as such, so you may still need to experiment, with ones that say "large" or "med...

Re: Painful Sex Over 1 Year After Childbirth...

Hi gymmaniac, It's great that you've been tying to go slow and use lots of lube, as those are both good ways to keep intercourse from being painful. But it sounds like there may be something else up here and, sadly, we can't diagnose you through the internet. So it's definitely a sound plan to talk ...

Re: When did your sex ed start?

Mine started slightly before I hit puberty (maybe age 9 or 10). My mom left the "It's Perfectly Normal" and "It's not the Stork" lying around where she knew I would find them. So I read them and enjoyed them. Nothing in them was a total shock, since my parents were the type to us...

Re: Out of ideas

There isn't a relationship between heaviness of flow and delayed periods that we know of. If she's going more than two months between periods from time to time, plus having instances of prolonged bleeding, she might want to check in with a healthcare provider just to see if anything is causing that ...
